RE: Licence to double tow in California

Unfortunately, most CHP's have no idea what they are looking at. They may ticket a legal rig and let an illegal one go. If you're lucky and find a Motor Carrier enforcement officer he/she may know the regs and then again they may not. My experience anyway.

RE: Licence to double tow in California

Having lived many years in CA and wanting to do the same thing, through research I have found that the last trailer can ONLY be a watercraft. Boat Jet ski etc. Also, the middle trailer (5'er) can be NO LONGER than 28.5 ft. Our current orphan (ALFA) can be any where from 31 to 28.5 depending on how you measure it. Take it for what it's worth. Oh yeah, AFTER we bought the orphan they tell us that you can't put a hitch on the back. My answer was essentially, HUH?

RE: VA hearing test - odd way to go about it.

Thanks Dean. That's what I was looking for.

RE: VA hearing test - odd way to go about it.

So, roughly what is 10% for tinnitus. I was on the Flightline and End of Runway, F4's, F5's, F111's, A10's, and T33's. Can't hear diddly except for the squealing. 10% of the national debt? 10% of the bailout? Right now 10% of 0 is still 0. No one has been able to say what the 10% is. Does anybody here know? Thanks in advance.

RE: winter driving with chains

We lived in Central CA for, well, ever. Went to Reno a lot. Now we live in Sparks, go to Central CA, a lot. When we're dragging the ALFA and heading west and it calls for chains, we chain up and head EAST until chains are not needed, wait it out and then continue. Usually less than a 12 hour wait. Just enough to lose a carp load at Boomtown. Atleast we had hookups.

RE: Rotating Duallies

At 6k miles, I take the fronts and put the left front to the left inside rear and the right front to the left outside rear. The next 6K I the the left front and put it the the right outside rear and the right front to the right inside rear. Got 100K out of a set on my 1 ton horse hauler that way. Rotated trailer tires the same time. Even if I was on a trip. I do the same now on my '02 Ram 3500.

RE: Reno Air Races

We live in Sparks so we're not taking the RV but for the less fortunate RV'ers, here is a link to the official RV page for the Reno Air Races. Have a Great Time. Fly Low - Go Fast - Turn Left!

RE: Let your brakes cool down..but for how long? Tragic

Why not just do what the DMV says and go down the hill in the gear you went up the hill?

RE: Alpha 5th Wheel

Our '05 ALFA has one in the cabinet over the master bed, head end.

RE: Santa Clara/San Jose Campgrounds

If you are not too concerned about amenities, try the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Tully Rd & 1st St. San Jose. Hook-up and that's about it. Neighbors across 1st St are pretty quiet. (Oak Hill Cemetery) :D

RE: Will not start when hot

Have had that exact problem with many trucks, both Ford and GM. Here's what I did and would do again if I get in that situation. Take the starter out and take it to a local starter rebuilder. Have it rebuilt but have them install 8 volt fields instead of 12 volt fields. It will spin that engine over as if it wasn't there. You might think it's trying to spin the whole MH over :B . Just my opinion but, it works!

RE: highway 20 in california from I5 to 101

West from I-5, there are 3 pretty good climbs, be careful on the down grades! When you start going around the lake, watch the yellow line as the road can get kinda narrow and oncoming traffic can be uh... hazardous. Speed limits vary WILDLY around the lake, too. That being said, it is a MUCH better than the northern alternatives. Oh, yeah, lots of pedestrians depending on the time of year. Many folks cross before looking. We towed our (former 36' 5-er through there many times going to Klamath River). Most times we would overnight in the Long's Drug Store parking lot and wake up to 4 police cars watching us. I guess we were the most excitement in Willits. :B

RE: Gold Beach, Oregon Campgrounds?

We always stay at India Creek Campground. 1/4 mile up-river on the Gold Beach side of the Wedderburn Bridge. Nice, clean quiet and friendly.

I agree, Lot 4, get there early. We were next to the big tree near the house in 2006.

RE: How do you give a cat medicine??

Our Stranger, (16 yr old feral rescue) has an over active thyroid. He needs meds 2x / day. We crush a pill into powder and add 1 - 2 Tbsp of lactose free milk. He loves it. If we're late he pesters us for his "M". For more details, PM me.

RE: My first roll away, what is the best kind of tool organizer

I took some of those interlocking floor mats from either Costco or Sams and cut out spaces individually. I arranged the tools where I wanted them and penned an outline with a Fine Sharpie. I'll post pictures tomorrow if you'd like.
